| All the pictures were shot on a beautiful sunny day,
while my friends and I wanted to reach Babele and the Sphinx natural monuments by
the cable car from Busteni. [Un]fortunately the cable car from Busteni was
in a maintenance program that day (every Tuesday actually). Unfortunately
because we were not equipped for a mountain escalade. And fortunately because
we faced the beauty of the Northern side of Jepii Mici Mountains and the Southern side of
the Caraiman. I could only guess that we reached 1,700 ~ 1,800 meters on the marked route number 7 (blue cross), which lead the properly equipped tourists from Busteni (885 m - 2903.5 ft) up to Cabana Caraiman (2025 m - 6644 ft) and Cabana Babele (2200 m - 7218 ft). Our map indicates that this is a dangerous route on bad weather, and forbidden during winter! So, when we reached a large area of snow ahead of us, we just said, against our will, STOP! It was not wise to continue the trip which was so great until then. As I said that the weather was fine, but our sport shoes were not fit for snow. With sadness in our hearts, we look again of the mountains which still surrounded us, at the unaccessible top of our route, then at the Jepilor Valley which lead us from Busteni up to this altitude, and which will lead us back to Busteni. Anyway it was a unique experience, and I barely wait to get there again! |
